Rosehill College (RC) is a co-educational state school located in the Auckland suburb of Rosehill in Papakura, New Zealand. The college was established on February 3, 1970, and is now the largest secondary school in the Papakura District.

Located approximately 45 minutes south of Auckland CBD, on the southern edge of the Auckland metropolitan area, the college administers students residing on the western side of the Southern Auckland Railway Line in Papakura and caters the Rosehill, Pahurehure, and Opaheke area as well as students from surrounding rural areas of Franklin District, Te Hihi, Karaka, Drury, Ponga, Runciman, Ramarama, Ararimu, Kingseat, Waiau Pa, and Clark's Beach. The campus is also situated near Rosehill Intermediate.

The college offers all students a comprehensive range of subjects from Year 9 to Year 13, leading to the national qualifications of Sixth Form Certificate, University Bursary and Scholarship, and National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1 - 3.

History

When the school opened on Tuesday, February 3, 1970 the population consisted of only 180 students, and 9 teachers. As the Papakura area was overtaken by Auckland's urban sprawl the school's roll increased exponentially.

The school was officially opened by Mr. A Campbell, who was the mayor of Papakura at this time, and previously worked as Principal of nearby Papakura High School.

Staff

From 1970 to 1984 Mr. Eric Jerkovich was the founding Principal. Following his retirement, the school was taken over by Mr. Tom Robson, and early in term 1 of 1995 by Mr. Bali Haque.

In October 2003, Mr. Graeme Macann was appointed the head of Rosehill College. Graeme has had extensive experience in the education sector and holds a Masters Degree in History from the University of Canterbury. Graeme was also head of the New Zealand Post Primary Teachers' Association, as well as being an inaugural member of the NZ Teacher's Council. Mr Gerry Olver is the current head of the chemistry department. Graeme is currently the Auckland Representative on the NZ Secondary Principal's Council, with Sue Blakely assisting with the management of Rosehill College as Acting Principal.

Academic staff come to Rosehill each day from all over the greater Auckland region to teach the students. Majority of the teaching staff are from the United Kingdom, and make the daily commute from as far as Henderson. The staff are well qualified in various subject areas.

Students

Students from Year 9 - 12 are required to wear regulation uniform. The school has a blue uniform with the red and white logo with polo shirts, blouses, shorts, skirts, jumpers, and blazers. Year 13 students are not required to wear uniform.

Houses

Rosehill College is split up into six houses.[2]

Every student is placed into one of the six houses upon arrival to the college. Each house is managed by a "Head of House", who is a senior staff member and consists of individual tutor classes from Year 9 - 14.
